Whitehaven's Wetherspoons
was opened in March 2003
in the converted bus garage/workshop
in Tangier Street, Whitehaven.

Jeremy Hinde and his wife Wendy, a local couple with a young family, returned to Whitehaven to run the Bransty Arch when it opened and have been there ever since. Wendy is also the Wetherspoons Catering Manager for the Cumbria and Fylde Area. Their commitment to Real Ale is clearly evident.

Offering the best range of beers in Whitehaven (including several from Jennings), consistent high quality and good value for money, the Bransty Arch has been a welcome addition to the Whitehaven pub scene, gathering a wide range of clientele, from families and "discerning" drinkers, during the day and early evenings, to energetic younger drinkers who make the spot "bounce" at night, particularly at weekends.

The pub runs occasional beer festivals, a prize quiz on Monday nights and the typical Wetherspoons regular themed food nights. It opens for breakfasts at 8am and offers good value food, and tea or coffee, all day. Alcohol is served from 9am to midnight - Mon to Thurs; 9am to 1am - Fri & Sat; 9am to midnight - Sun.

Where does the name come from? The original Bransty Arch in Tangier Street, Whitehaven, was used to transport coal from the Whingill Colliery site to the harbour. The arch was demolished in 1927.
