Access to Pubs

CAMRA has joined with a number of organisations including Charter 88, Friends of the Earth, the Soil Association, the Small and Family Brewers Association and Transport 2000, to support the Local Communities Sustainability Bill, which was introduced into Parliament by a cross party group of MPs last February. The campaign is not only a campaign to protect and support local pubs and breweries but also to bring about structural changes which would enable independent pubs and breweries to flourish. Such changes include more public transport to enable better access to pubs; more local jobs and community facilities; support for existing mutual aid schemes such as the 'Pub is the Hub' initiative.

CAMRA has appointed a Rural Pubs Campaigns Coordinator to advise and encourage branches on ways of promoting rural pubs and rural pub going. National Pubs week 21st 28th February 2004 will link up with the Pub is the Hub campaign, and will focus on a number of issues including families and pubs, wheelchair access, aimed at getting people to visit pubs more often.
