CAMRA's new chairman Paula Waters has called on brewers to come up with a real ale aimed at women. (But there is already a huge variety of styles and tastes to choose from: and what could be better than our new Champion beer Bitter and Twisted? ­ Ed).

Recent research has shown that the main reason women don't drink beer is that their friends don't drink it (30% of those questioned). Another 17% said that real ale isn't promoted, and 16% that it's old fashioned (but then sex has been around a long time as well).

GBBF organisers have suggested some beers that women might like to try: favourites have been Charles Wells Banana Bread Beer and Fuller's Summer Ale.
